ABSTRACT

The new instructor must begin to incorporate the communication technology skill set into the teaching practice. This includes mastering at least the basics of course management software, becoming familiar with discussion boards, chat rooms, virtual classrooms, media formats, and the course design features that work best in virtual classrooms. I might add that those instructors of my generation, facing retirement sometime in the next twenty years, would also do well to start redeveloping some of their favorite classes for the virtual classroom. There will always be a market for well-designed classes taught by experienced faculty. There will be a discussion of these skills later in this book.
