ABSTRACT
The cognitive scientists who have studied creativity describe at least three different situations in which creativity might be observed. The form and scope of the information processing-and therefore, the nature of the creativity-is different in each. The three situations are real-time creativity (improvisation), multistage creativity (extemporaneity), and paradigm-shifting creativity (Johnson-Laird 1988, 202-19).
