ABSTRACT

It was fun to have time to be a tourist. With Mom and Dad visiting, I had a chance to see a lot of places I hadn’t been to before. On Mom’s request, the three of us headed for Southgate Market in the rental car. Having never had a car in Seoul, I didn’t know where it was possible to park. It turned out the answer was nowhere. The traffic is terrible, and Seoul is full of one-way streets. I wasn’t very familiar with the area, even as a pedestrian. After driving around for half an hour, in desperation Dad returned the car to the Chosun Hotel, parked it in their garage, and we walked the eight blocks or so to the market.
