ABSTRACT
For at least thirty years, scholars from a range of fields, perspectives, and locations have generated research that would unveil/challenge/transform inequities and injustices created within the diverse and complex relations of power. Historically, a large body of scholarship and research has emerged that is foundational to this project that is often broadly labeled "critical". Often these diverse epistemological perspectives are used to philosophically ground research questions, designs, and analysis as lenses that would challenge traditionally white, male, Western constructions of research and theorizing. A large body of work can be found that critiques dominant research conceptualizations and practices and calls for a critical social science that would rethink research. From the outset of the project, we utilized messy and ordered situational maps to help us conceptualize the initial purpose and research design. Cartography throughout the research was iterative as we viewed SA map making as an open-ended, ever-evolving process.
