ABSTRACT
In 2008 The Wild Center, a museum in the Adirondack Park, began experimenting with convening diverse groups, facilitating dialogue and developing consensus goals to move the community toward climate action planning, focusing both globally and regionally. To catalyze action, the effort required an investment and dissemination of new information that described localized carbon use, and outlined anticipated effects of temperature rise on the natural environment and how these effects may impact human communities. The museum is finding that this effort requires careful planning and facilitation of new skill sets, but also offers a deep and meaningful way to build community and strengthen the museum's indispensable role within it.
