ABSTRACT

In this book, I have presented previously published stories and then reexamined and re-visioned them in meta-autoethnographies that connect the stories to my life now. I have cut and excerpted some of the original accounts and made minor revisions for the purpose of writing more clearly and succinctly But I have sought to maintain the original meanings as well as the ways I thought and the style in which I wrote at the time I published each story For example, in the chapter "Renegotiating Final Negotiations," I kept the word "subjects" when referring to those in my research study, where now I would substitute "participants." In "Talking Across Fences," I kept the discussion that shows my "othering" my Black boyfriend as exotic, though I add a note that acknowledges that I am aware of my practice.
