Breaking Our Silences/Speaking with Others
Expressing feelings vulnerably on the page invites others to express how they feel, comparing their experience to mine and to each other’s. Good autoethnography works toward a communitas, where we might speak together of our experiences, nd commonality of spirit, companionship in our sorrow, balm for our wounds, and solace in
reaching out to those in need as well. As Coles (1989, p. 22) says, a good story is one that others can take in and use for themselves.
