ABSTRACT

In Mirror Theatre’s early history, we avoided the topic of substance abuse, because it was overexposed. Schools were inundated with guest speakers and performances addressing this topic, so instead we focused on the then less-covered topic of bullying. Using a formal assessment of the Expecting Respect (ER) peer education program, we determined that the students wanted more emphasis on drugs and alcohol. I brought the information to that year’s Theory and Practice of Drama/Theatre in Education class, and we agreed that this would be our topic. What’s the Use? was the title of this collection of vignettes.
