ABSTRACT
Everything Pelias says might reduce to the claim that performance is hard so we should be nicer to each other. Sorry, sometimes criticism just cannot be nice. Sometimes the truth hurts. Often, lies are more hurtful. Performers need to know when their art falls short. Students need to know when their work is inadequate. And we all must be able recognize our own shortcomings.
