ABSTRACT

There is scarcely a part of the ancient Near East in which Olga Tufnell has not been or is not still interested. She has travelled, excavated or researched in all the countries of the Levant, and Cyprus has inspired her no less than any other. It is illustrative of her breadth of vision, and enthusiasm for interconnections, that the article which she co-authored with Joan du Plat Taylor on ‘A Pottery Industry in Cyprus’ should have appeared in Ancient Egypt (1930, December, Part IV, pp.119 ff), and it is inspired in turn by her example that I have written this article as a tribute to a sterling, generous and warm-hearted colleague and friend. Helen joins me in this tribute.
