Human evolution produced a culture-creating and culture-dependent creature with a mind that generates a continual flow of innovations and uncertainties, who depends for its well-being on cooperation with other like creatures. Evolved cognitive biases ensure behavioral compliance with the moral vision implicit in a culture's fundamental premises.
