ABSTRACT

There is much plain good sense in Patterson Williams* “Teaching or Touring?** Museums do-or can-serve quite diverse audiences. Curators, exhibit designers, and museum educators would do well, as Ms. Williams advises, to learn the different expectations and capabilities of their audiences and do their work with those varying characteristics clearly in mind. These admonitions cannot be taken too seriously by museum persons who desire to make their institutions* collections more accessible and meaningful to the public.
