ABSTRACT

While recent trends in education seem to be taking our schools back to “content” and “coverage,” museum educators appear more aware of dialogue and interaction as essential elements in museum curriculum work. What irony that school teachers are pressed to emphasize the content monologue in their work at the very time that museums are reaching out to develop a dialogue! If correctly defined, these trends may lead to increasing numbers of student groups armed with work sheets, seeking to “learn” content that the school may justify the expense of the trip.
