ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we discuss complex designs that are extensions of, or exceptions to, the mixed method designs already discussed in Chapters 8 and 9. These are designs that continue to add components beyond the designs described earlier (referred to by Teddlie and Tashakkori [2006] as “multi-strand”), or projects that continue to be linked as a series of mixed methods studies that become multiple methods research programs. Recall that multiple method designs are a series of completed studies cohesively linked to address the same programmatic research question, contributing in a stepwise fashion to solve a programmatic research goal.
