ABSTRACT

QUAN, that is, quantitatively-driven mixed method designs—are the most common of the mixed method designs and much easier to do than QUAL mixed methods designs. The QUAN sample is already adequate—usually too large—for the qualitative supplement, and all the researcher has to do is to decide who to choose from the line up for the qual sample according to some selected criteria—which sometimes is not easy. As we say: “Certainly not random; convenience is not the best either.”

Principle #13: Whatever is being coded and/or counted must make sense.
