ABSTRACT

I have begun with those attributes of the military school that most distinguishes it from the public school. These attributes are, at the same time, those I believe to be both of the greatest interest and curiosity to parents and guardians of young boys and the least understood by them. Few parents seeking an alternative to the public school, other than a religious school or home schooling, have a clear idea of what the military school today attempts to do and how it differs from private day or boarding nonmilitary academies. From what I have observed of the recruiting and admissions process at most schools I have studied, I do not believe they are any wiser or better informed when decision time comes.
