ABSTRACT

The following distinctions may be made: • Cattle. A massive, round cross section, highly variable in size (especially small in domestic animals). The main distinguishing characteristic is a twist along the length, so that the core sweeps to lateral and to cranial from the skull. • Bison. A similarly massive, round cross section to cattle. The main distinction is that the cores arc directly to dorsal from the frontal bone, with no twist along their length. • Goat. Less robustly constructed, oval in cross section and often with a sharp crest along the cranial border, curving to caudal from the frontal bone, sometimes with a slight lateral twist. • Sheep. Similar in robustness to goat, but usually with a more rounded cross-section and further distinguished by curving spirally to caudal and out to lateral around the ear region of the skull.
