ABSTRACT

In the last 20 years, Amazonian archaeology has improved our understanding of the history of the peopling of the region. Some authors have proposed chronological reconstructions of the preColumbian Amazon (McEwan et al. 2001; Neves 2006). As useful as these studies have proven, they are often focused on the Amazon Basin and ignore Guiana. As a result, the coastal Amazon is generally absent from chronological schemas.
