ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book outlines five key issues in the informal learning field that the author would address in offering an approach for interpretive planning and for integrating visitor perspectives within that process. Planners who adopt a deliberate process of integrated interpretive planning not only will reduce the chances of arbitrary decision making, but also will help focus their intentions and track the impacts of their efforts. With rapidly changing technology, demographics, and leisure choices, museums can easily become out of touch with the world around them. In addition, considering visitor and social perspectives in planning museum experiences on line as well as in person will need to become the norm if institutions are to stay abreast of broader changes in learning and education sectors.
