ABSTRACT

The author and his friend becoming easily upset by things the other couldn't understand. One night after a disagreement, he was particularly sad and unable to sleep, so he made The Onion. So the author choses an onion first because they have layers, second because he knows his friend hates onions, and third because they make him cry. The author never made anything like The Onion before. As he drew, he intentionally added personal touches that he knew would impact him the salt and pepper shakers, the sad face in the O, and most importantly, the truth about the way he felt. After he finished drawing The Onion, he was able to fall asleep and felt much better having figured out the problem. He don't know why, but he found later that his friend carried The Onion with him in his backpack for months. For the author, that's the most endearing part of the story.
