ABSTRACT

The documentation of industrial sites and production processes must be done on site, but on-line methods and tools can be beneficially exploited in training and education when direct physical connection with the study object is not essential. The principal advantage of these methods is the saving of time and money, which is an important issue when teachers and students come from different parts of a country or even from different countries far away from each other. But on-line methods have many other advantages. This chapter outlines the structures and methods of using e-learning as complementary to face-to-face studies, deploying Finnish experience as an example of best practice.
