The crucial piece is written by the marketing manager responsible for one's book. If one advertises their work on a listserv, make sure the marketing manager knows so that one can forward it to their mailing lists and post a link on their website as well. Book signings at conferences are much easier after all; the publisher gets to sell more books that way. Between publisher's professional marketing package, one's additions to it through feeding them opportunities one uncover, and one's own work at marketing one's work, one can maximize the reach of the message to potential audiences. The book information form goes out to the institutional buyers, places that one never hear about but which populate the world's databases and bring orders from libraries and bookstores throughout the world.
