ABSTRACT

A journal editor or acquisitions editor who had endless fights with an author throughout production may just decide it isn't worth those battles again the next time one submit something, no matter how good one work is. If one can't meet their schedules, or have any specific issues concerning one's article, let them know in advance so they can reschedule the publication date. The items that seem to bedevil academic authors the most, for both books and journals, are providing usable illustrations and correct copyright permissions. Copyright permissions might require months of work to finalize, and one article might sit in limbo until all the copyright permissions have been secured. Like the journal article, there are bits of flotsam and jetsam that are supposed to accompany a finished book manuscript. Whether the production team is directly employed by the publisher or are freelancers, production teams can only survive financially by having a steady flow of work.
