ABSTRACT

Organic samples selected from different archaeological contexts of the Tell Mardikh/Ebla archaeological site were submitted to AMS (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry) radiocarbon dating at CEDAD (Centre for Dating and Diagnostics), University of Salento. The samples were selected from different contexts from Royal Palace G, all related to the fire that led to the destruction of the palace. This paper presents the general principles of the radiocarbon dating method, the chemical procedures used for preparing the samples, and the details of the AMS measurements and discusses the results obtained from the analysis.
