ABSTRACT

Much of the farmland that was once in the shadow of the nation’s capital has, in recent years, been lost. With it has disappeared the sense of community that is so often tied to agriculture. Working to educate the public about agriculture’s past, present, and future just 15 miles from Washington, DC, is the Accokeek Foundation at Piscataway Park. The Accokeek Foundation’s National Colonial Farm is a living history museum that interprets ordinary life in colonial Maryland.
