ABSTRACT

The digital revolution, moving from analog technology to digital, has been occurring over the past few decades and continues apace. It has created a rising wave in the number of documentary film makers, both professional and amateur. Digital media are audio, photo, and video data that are electronically stored that is, on computers and digital storage media and digitally compressed. Digital technology operates on a binary system where patterns are assigned zeros and ones. Analog recordings, however, use infinitely variable patterns. The technological transition that occurred in archaeology over the past two to three decades also took place in documentary filmmaking. Social media groups such as the professional networking site linked in can be harnessed to generate discussion among documentarians on various issues and concerns associated with their industry. Other social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter are great venues for updating friends and associates about the progress of an archaeology-related documentary.
