ABSTRACT

Promoting the production is a huge ongoing endeavor for the principals of a documentary. The graphic design for the DVD box needs to entice consumers as it communicates what the documentary is all about. Commercially produced DVDs are sometimes encrypted with region coding, Content Scramble System (CSS), and other artificial restrictions to keep the discs from being duplicated by unauthorized parties. Besides having great still photographs depicting the various stages of your archaeological study, photographs of the production itself will be needed for publicity purposes. A press kit, or media kit as it is sometimes called today, is basically an information packet about your documentary. Film festivals are an excellent venue for promoting documentaries. Winning an award or honor for your documentary accomplishes two major things. The Internet and social media have opened new portals to boost interest in documentaries.
