ABSTRACT
Kathleen must have taken Gertrude Caton-Thompson’s advice about being an archaeological photographer to heart, for soon after arriving home in November 1929 she began a course in photography with a view to continuing in archaeology. 1 Characteristically, Caton-Thompson never encouraged K directly. She did, however, tell Sir Frederic that his daughter was sure to succeed if she chose an archaeological career. 2
