ABSTRACT

Kathleen Mary Kenyon’s birth had been awaited with great anxiety. Her mother had lost two previous children at birth due, according to family tradition, to the incompetence of the doctor where they lived in Harrow-on-the-Hill, a suburb of London. Indeed, Kathleen’s birth was rather difficult, as she came out arm first. Nevertheless, the baby was delivered safely on January 5, 1906, and congratulations poured in from delighted friends and relatives.
