ABSTRACT

Our process of writing this book was itself a creative practice. When we started we only had a general sense of how creativity works, so we operated intuitively, striking out in whatever direction felt right or with whatever idea one of us came up with that sounded interesting. Researching this book had an unintended outcome: the literature we read affirmed that our natural intuition about the most useful way for us to work creatively was in most cases right on target; our brains (and your brain, too) are already wired to take the creative path if we can just get out of their way and let them do it. We certainly made changes in our creative practices based on our new learning, but recognizing the inherent creative power of our own brains has been one of the most personally rewarding parts of this project. Our greatest wish for all of you, dear readers, is that you experience this creative power for yourself.
