Introduction: Before We Begin…

In 2004 George Lakoff published a little book called Don’t Think of an Elephant: Know Your Values and Frame the Debate. The basic premise of it was that Republicans frame important issues as would a Strict Father while Democrats frame their sense of those same issues as Family Members, a notion that echoes what conservative columnist David Brooks observed: that the Republicans are Daddies and the Democrats are Mommies.
