ABSTRACT

This chapter examines a common passion for pursuing an active research agenda. However, at our current university, we face the challenge of heavy teaching loads, which leaves little time for research. After several informal conversations about this, we bonded over our desire to actively pursue a research agenda even at a 'teaching university'. Heewon approached Faith and Kathy-Ann to begin a project relative to our experiences of being foreign born women of color in the academy. This collaborative autoethnography (CAE) circle was a natural outgrowth of a larger autoethnographic writing group of which we were a part. The unifying elements were that we had all migrated to the United States to do graduate work and were each committed to advancing an active research agenda. The chapter explores how providential our meeting was. Each of us was at a different stage in our professional and personal development.
