Bead Description: Attributes and Indices

Because current bead classification systems are works in progress, it is critical that analysts record as much metrical and descriptive data as possible. These data may then be used to resolve typological issues, such as distinguishing subtypes within Class F Saddles or further refining the relative chronology of Olivella bead manufacture and use. The full and accurate recording of both metrical and descriptive characteristics is particularly pressing in light of the fact that many assemblages are subject to reburial following initial analysis.
