ABSTRACT

An entire chapter on the subject of architecture and power might appear to be overkill, as the expression of power through the built environment seems so clearly evident as to require only brief discussion. However, once we delve into how the built environment can be used not only to demonstrate power but also to establish positions of power, control the freedoms and actions of others, and indicate shifts in power, the nuances of the relationship between architecture and power become far more complicated, and interesting.
