Iron and Steel Production

Among the earliest surviving industrial remains in the United States are those associated with the iron industry. Furnaces, foundries, forges, rolling mills, charcoal and lime kilns, and blacksmith shops and their remnants are still scattered throughout much of the United States, especially in rural areas.
