ABSTRACT

I locate the present study within a broader tradition of scholarship that goes under the general heading of new narratives and history or cultural studies of the cold war era. There are excellent treatments of a variety of topics related to my particular interest that have informed and shaped this book. They are: Boyer (1985), Curtin (1995), Gaddis (1998), Gallagher and Greenblatt (2001), Grossman (2001), Kuznick and Gilbert (2001), May (1999), McEnaney (2000), Parry-Giles (2002), Saunders (1999), White (1998), Whitfield (1996), and Winkler (1993).
