ABSTRACT

This chapter first provides a brief outline of how data was selected and how the data was approached as 'text'. It orients to Critical Discourse Analysis in order to explain the understanding of 'discourse', 'text' and 'critique'. The advantage of both nexus analysis and rhizomatic discourse analysis is their attention to the multiple dimensions of discourse and to how interactions are situated and how they might shift. The goal of both approaches is to trace the paths of discourses that intersect in particular sites and practices. The chapter also discusses the understanding of neoliberal capitalism, and outlines an approach to analytical tools and methods, thus exploring the benefits of 'messy method'. It explains the approach to analysis in terms of fallibilism and Althusserian ideology. Finally, the chapter suggests that to ground critique, it is useful to orient to an understanding of the 'good'.
