ABSTRACT

In Canada the narrative of place and heritage related to automobile production includes the historical production of cars such as the LeRoy, the Russell, the Tudhope, the Thomas, the Galt and others, including the Bricklin (White, 2007). This chapter focuses on the narrative related to the Bricklin, a sports car produced briefly in the province of New Brunswick in the 1970’s. The emphasis of the chapter is on examining the story of this car in relation to place, tracing its transition from a specialty car to a collectable car to part of the local narrative commemorated in various ways. The story of the Bricklin in relationship to that of the DeLorean is also briefly considered.
