ABSTRACT

Transportation and tourism have been the two intricately interrelated industries, mutually affecting each other. Advancements in the transportation industry, especially the advent of automobiles, have made access to remote areas possible. Therefore, attractions and activities available for tourism consumption have been diversified tremendously. Besides the attractions and activities, aspects of automobile production have also generated tourism. More specifically, car factory destinations such as Detroit and events related to cars such as auto shows have become tourist attractions. Nowadays, there are many different auto shows and events around the world. One type of event, Concours d’Elegance, which originated in France in the seventeenth century, is a prestigious show usually attended by wealthy individuals and celebrities. However, despite their potential economic and image impact on the destination, there is a lack of academic attention to these events. The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is one of these events held on the east coast of Florida and is the subject of this chapter to serve the long overdue need to pay academic attention to this event.
