ABSTRACT

In this brief concluding chapter, we will review the progress in the understanding of the relationship between automobile heritage and tourism as evidenced by this volume. We began this work by highlighting the importance of the automobile to society in the twentieth century and noting the fascination with historic vehicles that drives the growing interest in vintage or classic cars and their heritage. Within the book contributors went on to explore this interest in automobile heritage, profiling evidence for its growth, delving further into the fascination with automobile heritage and analysing its relevance to tourism. We framed this investigation around three relevant components of automobile heritage, namely people, places and products, categories that were adopted for the organization of the book.
