ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, it is very important to recapitulate the evolution of ideas towards this final chapter of the book. In the first chapter, I discussed the philosophical and historical development of the universal concept of human rights and political and legal recognition of these ideas. The same chapter also presented the parallel system of human rights monitoring which is working under the United Nations. The European and the Inter-American human rights regimes were discussed in the second chapter, which continued till the third chapter where I discussed the African and Arab human rights mechanisms. In these chapters specifically, I highlighted the unique features of each one of the regional human rights mechanisms and also tried to highlight their exclusive features which made them different per their regional demands. The scattered ideas of similarities and dissimilarities between these regional mechanisms were worked upon in this book in order to build up a case in favour of South Asia and the SAARC and to prove their potential to establish a regional human rights mechanism for this sub-region of Asia.
