ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book begins with the enabling environment and the acknowledgement of the importance of the environment and the way that it gives children cues about what each area is for, and how they can best use the resources and environment that has been created. It examines ways of working with young children in order that they may grow up to positively accept each other as unique. The book discusses some of the historical aspects of immigration in the UK and how policy was established in the 1960s when the first wave of immigrants came over to the UK. It seeks to unpick the evolving journey of the Early Years Foundation Stage, which was orchestrated in 2008. The book discusses the many changes that this policy has been through between 2008 and 2017 and the Prevent Duty, which became part of it in 2015.
