ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the evolving organic nature of inclusion as well as analysing differences between the terms 'integration' and 'inclusion', considering how these concepts have changed over the years. It examines the principle of 'the unique child' as set out through the Early Years Foundation Stage document and how this encompasses all areas of inclusion and views all children as unique, rather than viewing inclusion as being about certain groups of children. The chapter discusses the need for practitioners to consider their own views of inclusion in an open and non-threatening way. It looks at strategies that can be used in all settings in order that they become inclusive to all families whatever their ethnicity. The chapter discusses differences in people's view in relation to integration and inclusion, recognising it as a human right that all children should be respected and their culture and heritage celebrated.
