ABSTRACT

The activities in this chapter provide methods through which teachers will be able to support pupils to learn about the significance of sacred texts in a range of religious traditions and why people regard particular texts as sacred and discuss their meanings. Pupils will explore the teachings, authority and what sacred texts and other sources say about God, the world and human life. They will also learn what these different sacred texts teach about life and how they influence people in different ways. They will also extend their oracy and vocabulary and be enthused about the power and beauty of language as they read and write from sacred texts. Learners will make links between beliefs, practices and sacred texts. Pupils, through these activities, gain and deploy the skills needed to understand, interpret and evaluate texts, sources of wisdom and authority and other evidence.
