ABSTRACT

One way to directly examine the accuracy of extraretinal eye-position information is to record attempts to maintain the eye in a defmed position in the absence of visual information about eye position. Skavenski and Steinman (1970) and Skavenski (1971) found that such control was reasonably good. Figure 1 shows typical recordings of horizontal and vertical eye position during attempts to maintain the eye in several positions in the dark.
