ABSTRACT

The issue of trans-Tasman migration is nothing new. Based on the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement, New Zealand and Australia had pursued less restrictive immigration controls between each other, and migration flows between the two countries had been less regulated for a long time before the 2001 policy change in Australia. Based on a detailed analysis on the Permanent and Long-term (PLT) arrival and departure data from INZ and information from an online survey conducted by the author, this chapter examines the trans-Tasman migration of new PRC Chinese migrants. It focuses on the volume and intentions of PRC migrants’ trans-Tasman migration flow.
