ABSTRACT

A lot of podcasters take comfort that they are at least recording their podcasts in the living room and not the garage. But where they record neither validates their passion nor defines the scope of the podcast. In fact, with the portable recording technology available today, a podcaster can pretty much record anywhere. It is important that early on he/she masters his/her equipment and understands what makes good sounding audio free of outside interference. As the podcast grows, maybe the podcaster will dedicate a room to recording, buy better microphones and put up sound-proofing materials. In a sense, he/she will be building a more permanent studio. Identifiable sound can be very effective in transitioning between scenes in a story. The key to making this work is to keep the transition at a slow enough pace so that the audience can follow along before another new sound is introduced, such as narration.
