ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the challenges and methods of collaborative inquiry-based assessment in terms of the WisCom framework and the Collaborative Inquiry Cycle (CIC) model. Inquiry-based learning within the WisCom framework aims to develop learners' individual and collaborative problem-solving skills for transfer to future work. Assessment of collaborative inquiry-based learning is more challenging than traditional assessment with its focus on individual achievement in relation to specific outcomes. Collaborative group work also provides opportunities for deeper understanding of a problem and the development of a more comprehensive solution. Individual assessment within the WisCom framework focuses on the individual's role within the wisdom community's collaboration process. The literature on peer assessment generally focuses on the product. However, peer assessment can also be used to evaluate group collaboration processes. Learning can be assessed in both formative and summative ways. For both process and product, formative assessment feedback begun at the start of the learning process is key in supporting learning.
