ABSTRACT

I T appears as though the global threat of terrorism has been steadily increasing over the last 150 years. This is most likely due to several factors, but the main factor is that there is now a more clear and universal definition of acts that are considered to be terrorism. We will go over several definitions that emerge from various perspectives which will provide a clear path forward as we examine some of the most prolific terrorist groups over the last 50 years. We will also examine counter-terrorism techniques and attempts at policing terrorism, and provide a quick overview of how policing and counter-terrorism efforts have affected human rights.
