ABSTRACT

A part of the world ocean body, the Indian Ocean covers 20 per cent of the earth’s main water surface, which attributes to a total of onefifth of the world’s ocean area. The Indian Ocean, the third largest saline-water body of the world, derives its name from India. 2 The Indian Ocean has probably affected humanity more profoundly than any other ocean. Through the continuum of history, this region has been significant in geopolitics and in the evolution of mankind.
